The KP government has finally given Rs. 1.423 billion to pay off the unpaid wages and pensions of workers in Tehsil Municipal Administrations (TMAs).
Municipal workers, notably sanitation workers, had been having a hard time for months since their salaries and pensions were late. It also put thousands of families in a bad financial situation. The Local Government Employees Federation LGEF-KPK then launched a protest movement across the province. Municipal offices were closed, and workers in every district of KP shouted for their rights.
The Pakistan Workers Federation (PWF) and Public Sector Employees Federation of Pakistan(PSEFP) fully supported the workers’ demands. The KP Finance Department formally approved the distribution of on August 20, 2025:
- Rs. 1260 million for 64 weak TMAs in settled districts.
- Rs. 163 million for 23 weak TMAs in merged districts.
- This brings the total to Rs. 1.423 billion, a much-needed relief for workers whose livelihoods were at stake.
This victory comes at a time when KP is facing massive floods. Roads are underwater, people are being forced to move, and health dangers are going up. In the middle of all this destruction, city and sanitation workers are on the front lines, putting their lives on the line to save people, clear materials, and bring back public services.
These workers have been ignored for a long time and not paid what they are owed in pay and pensions, even though they are important for keeping people healthy and safe. The distribution of cash today is not only a financial relief, but also a way to honor their dignity, dedication, and sacrifice.
