Capital Hospital Privatisation Faces Resistance from the CDA Mazdoor Union, which will harm workers’ rights and public access to healthcare services.

The CDA Mazdoor Union CBA has rejected the process of privatizing the Capital Hospitals privatization will not only pose a threat to the quality and availability of health care in CDA for its workers and the general public.

The CDA Nazdoor Union is notified Collective Bargaining Agent (CBA) of CDA employees which works dedicated to safeguarding the rights of Workers in Capital Development authority-CDA. CDA Mazdoor Union is affiliated with the Pakistan Workers Federation (PWF) on a National level, and on an international level, the CDAMU is affiliated with Public Services International (PSI).

The General Secretary of the Union Ch. Muhammad Yaseen is also the General Secretary of PWF and has clearly come out against the process of privatization of Capital Hospital and has vowed to stop this process to safeguard the interests of the employees public healthcare.

Another concern voiced by the union is that the privatization policy will not remain restricted here alone and will creep into other sections particularly the public sectors eroding jobs securities, and labour rights as well as deterioration in the quality of public services. Yaseen once again announced that the union will fight for worker rights and is ready to protest if privatization will proceed.

The CDAM Union’s strong commitment to resisting privatization and protecting the right of the general public to access healthcare reflects the course it has carried out. Capital Hospital mainly caters to CDA workers but has established itself as a backbone for affordable healthcare in Islamabad.

Union contended that privatization would harm workers, and it would reduce low-income families and other vulnerable subsectors of society from access to necessary health services. The union also is resisting these plans precisely because it wants public healthcare to remain accessible and people, not profit, to be the priority.

He emphasized that the union would stage protests if privatization efforts continued and fight to keep the hospital a public institution. The union was prepared to take all measures to prevent any bad lessons for the workforce or the public and maintain a healthcare facility that corresponds to the workers’ needs and to the people of the capital territory of Pakistan.
